A really in-depth, amazing book called "To Cherish All Life: A Buddhist View of Animal Slaughter and Meat Eating", by Roshi Philip Kapleau. This wonderful man sent me a copy of his book when I was in high school, after reading in the newspaper that I was veg/activist.

I strongly recommend this book to anyone who would like to learn more about buddhist's views of animals.

I also suggested this book in some other tribes, so sorry if you are in all of the same tribes as I am and had to read it more than once.

The book Amethyst reccomended brought up some really good points(none of which I can remember at the moment because I read it a while ago), but I do remember it was a really good book. It's definately worth reading for your own knowledge, and also for the next time you get stuck with the "why are you a vegan?" question.

The whole time I was reading the book I remember thinking "wow that's another good thing about being vegan". It made me feel really good about being vegan. I'm not saying that I don't already feel great about being vegan, it was just cool to read about being vegan from a Buddhist point of view. They make a lot of sense!

      Hope you enjoy the book!

Another great book that isn't technically about being vegan, but is still a great book is the Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff. It's my favorite book. I got the cover tattooed on my arm because the book changed my life so much :)

Oh wow! I think I read the Tao in Pooh a few years ago, but if you tattooed it on your arm it might be worth looking at again.

I'm looking forward to reading the first book:-)

Do you have the publisher? Where can we get a copy?
I just received "Buddhism and Animals" by Dr. Tony Page. Same topic, I'm excited to read it.

Wow! I can't wait to check out "Buddhism and Animals"!

For "To Cherish All Life", I found it online here, to be purchased new or used:
            product.half.ebay.com/_W0QQcp...rZ705265

It looks to me like the publisher of To Cherish All Life is
"The Zen Center" in Rochester, NY.
            The ISBN # is:
            0-940306-00-X

When Roshi Philip Kapleau signed my book, he wrote:
"You can't have your friends and eat them too"
            :)

Carolena for Fatchance is now Vegan also. There is a book called the World Peace Diet that is very good and Fatchance carries that.

We've got a few other books as well. Please visit www.fcbd.com/clvw/products.shtml
We also have The Vegan Passport for $10, it's not up on the site yet. It translates your vegan needs into hundreds of languages! I take it with me everywhere.

Please let us know when The Vegan Passport is up on the site! I'd be interested in buying a copy. It sounds really helpful :)

I bought Being Vegan, when I first went vegan. I love that book. I also ended up buying a few other books by Joanne Stepaniak-The Uncheese Cookbook, and The Vegan Deli. I love the introductions in her books-you can tell she really researches everything very thoroughly.
